1. The Perks of Being a Wallflower

This movie has become my favorite ever since I watched it. It was a story about a high school freshman boy passing through his first year of high school with psychological issues because of the traumas at his younger age, understanding love, and curing himself with the company of some great friends and an awesome teacher. I love this film because the storytelling is fascinating. The director was a good storyteller since he really captures what going on in the protagonist’s mind. He depicted his loneliness and sadness in a way that moves my heart a thousand times. On the other hand, this movie has talked about serval issues among teenagers including sexual and drug abuse, the male gaze on teenage feminism, and gender and sexualities in teenagers’ social environment. It was an inclusive film that has a deep focus on people in their coming of age. Also, this film has some really good taste in music, such as the major theme song being “Heros” by David Bowie, which is one of my favorite rock stars.

2. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

It was a great show that I was dying for the next season. The way the show makers tell the story was extremely attractive, making you never want to stop to know the next thing that will happen. The director has a wonderful use of camera positions and editing. The linear storyline was sparked by the remarkable use of flashbacks that was connected perfectly to the present. Also, it was a story about Mrs. Maisel going through her hard time in marriage and by chance evoking her feminist ideas in her career in stand-up comedy. I found that fascinating because it shows the brutal reality of feminism and patriarchy. The story was in the 1950s in New York City, but some issues in the show are still happening nowadays, such as discrimination among genders in workplaces, the balance of working women and their families and the responsibility of a husband, and the difficulties of the LGBTQA+ groups. It was a terrific show about feminism with wonderful storytelling techniques. Season 4 is coming this year and I was excited about it.

3. Reset

It was a new Chinese TV show that was released this month, and I swear this is the best show I have ever seen in this genre. The story was about an accidental disastrous explosion on a bus crossing the bridge and the protagonists were trapped in a time loop because of it. The only way to get out of this loop is to save themselves and everyone on the bus that will die because of the explosion. It was a unique story setting of the detective show that the timeline was like playing a video game—you died once you fail and start all over again. At the same time, this show is also very touching. It depicted the real image of common people, with the real situation and reaction of people within an accident. You can see the humanity glows in this show.
